Ping.fm One Click Status Update

PingFM
Ping.fm will definitely be handy. With this service, you can deliver a message to your entire network with simply by updating your status on this. If you don’t want to update every service, you can create “posting groups” so you don’t have to send your status updates to ALL your profiles. This could be very nice, at times, you just wanna send out a quick message without logging in to a bunch of accounts. However, I can see how …it’d be overused as well. We all have network partners on multiple services. (e.g. you probably have your Virtual Assistant on Twitter, Facebook, Linked IN and perhaps even Yahoo chat.)

Ping FM is the kind of service you’d want to use for

  • messages about events
  • new blog posts
  • new jobs posting
  • important, exciting news

Ping FM probably shouldn’t be over-used for

  • negative messages
  • advertising-I’ve seen ads posted with ping fm hourly by some business people. This seems kind of spammy to me, and eventually people will just ignore it.
  • and be very careful with messages that include: hurtful gossip (unless you work with TMZ ) or completely irrelevant randomness. E.G. “Getting ready to brush my teeth.”
  • If you have a bone to pick with someone, make sure you have concrete proof of your message if you are questioned. Also, when dealing with other people’s reputations, understand that your credibility is also at steak!

Remember that the whole point of social media is to stay connected to friends, coworkers, and clients. If you send out any message with one of these broadcast services you want to make sure that you don’t miss someone’s response to your message! Just setting up automated messages out into the cosmic void of our internet universe is probably not going to help you grow your network, build your business, or do all of the work for you. However, they do help!

When it comes to social media, you have to keep the conversation going.

These are the statuses and posts I updated in one click!

On a side note, Ping.FM is teaming up with Seesmic. Seesmic makes some a popular twitter applications. I have been trying one out on my droid smart phone. So far, it seems fairly stable. I’ll keep you posted. If you already have an opinion on this app, let us know!

I use Ping.fm quite a bit and find it a great timesaver.

Thanks for reminding us of its positives and negatives for a well-rounded view of how we should use it.
